Registration packets available in summer of 2010 The lumber industry has a rich tradition in the West, marked by the many business relationships developed in the course of making and selling Western lumber. In an effort to preserve the Western lumber's storied history and celebrate the business relationships that are integral to the industry, the Lumber Pioneers was formed for veteran industry participants. The Lumber Pioneers was established in 2004 to maintain the many relationships among individuals who developed and advanced the Western lumber industry. In 2008, the Lumber Pioneers became an non-profit organization that can accept tax-deductible contributions for its scholarship and philanthropic activities. The organization also seeks to document the rich history of companies and individuals who have shaped the industry throughout the decades. Since 2005, the Lumber Pioneers have published four monographs, featuring Pope & Talbot's Port Gamble, Washington sawmill, Gilchrist Timber Company in central Oregon, Paul Bunyan Lumber Company in northern California, Ochoco Lumber Company in central Oregon and Bohemia, Inc. in the Willamette Valley.
